2010 Goals

To be specific, these are my running goals for 2010. There's a Plan A and a Plan B. The plans are contingent upon winning a lottery position for two races. I won't know if I got in until February.

Plan A 2010
1. Complete the Rocky Mountain Slam if I get into Hardrock
a. Hardrock 100*, plus three of four of Wasatch, the Bighorn 100, the Bear 100 Mile Endurance Run, or Leadville
2. Rocky Raccoon 50 or 100, February 2010
3. Get into Barkley*, March 2010
4. Pocatello 50, May 2010
*Entry by lottery

Plan B 2010
1. Rocky Raccoon 50 or 100, February 2010
2. Get into Barkley*, March 2010 OR Antelope Island 50 mile
3. Pocatello 50, May 2010
4. Devil's Backbone 50. July 2010
5. El Vaquero Loco 50 K, August 2010
6. Wasatch 100, September 2010

Overall, I want to complete these races without throwing up and/or crying. That's it!

How will I accomplish this?
1. Practice and refine my hydrocortisone/florinef needs during long runs.
2. Practice eating during long runs.
3. Consistently and persistently run the miles I need to run to accomplish my goals. I'm using this 100 mile program with alterations. I also started a group on Facebook, Trail Runners of Teton Valley, so we (runners) can connect, have company on our runs, push each other and just have company once in a while.
4. Strengthen my upper body and core through Core Performance training.

Although I've set my race goals high for 2010, it's not accomplishing these goals that's important. The important things are: the journey to the goal, practice being consistent and persistent (exercise, food, meds), staying healthy, enjoying what I'm doing when I'm doing it, taking pictures and making it through our long winter without going bonkers.

Red Creek

There's something beautiful and peaceful about being alone in the woods. Today it never got warmer than 38 degrees in the sun. One good thing about the freezing cold temperatures was that if firmed the mud up, making it easier to run and walk on.

Willow branches hanging over Red Creek

A section of Red Creek that's freezing over

A new bridge, steep hill and mud.

This is what Fall looks like, right before the snow flies (tomorrow!)

Oh yum, a drink on the side of the trail!

Winter is coming!

... A POWERFUL STORM SYSTEM HITS EASTERN IDAHO MONDAY AND TUESDAY...
ANOTHER STRONG FALL SYSTEM WILL IMPACT EASTERN IDAHO EARLY ON THIS WEEK. THIS SYSTEM WILL BRING LIGHT RAIN AND SNOW TO THE UPPER SNAKE HIGHLANDS LATE SUNDAY NIGHT AND INCREASE THROUGH MONDAY AFTERNOON. THE SYSTEM WILL DROP SOUTHWARD MONDAY NIGHT AND TUESDAY... BRINGING MUCH COLDER AIR BY TUESDAY TO ALL OF EASTERN IDAHO. SNOW LEVELS WILL PEAK AROUND 6000-7000 FEET AHEAD OF THE COLD FRONT LATER MONDAY AND DROP TO THE VALLEY FLOORS TUESDAY MORNING. TOTAL SNOWFALL AMOUNTS OF 4 TO 10 INCHES ARE POSSIBLE ABOVE 7000 FEET... WITH LIGHTER AMOUNTS DOWN LOWER. THE SNAKE PLAIN AND EASTERN MAGIC VALLEY ARE FORECAST TO SEE 1 TO 4 INCHES OF SNOW. STRONG WEST TO NORTHWEST WINDS OF 15 TO 30 MPH... SLIGHTLY HIGHER IN THE MOUNTAINS... WILL ACCOMPANY THIS STORM. THIS COULD LEAD TO HAZARDOUS DRIVING CONDITIONS IN SOME AREAS DUE TO BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW ALONG WITH REDUCED VISIBILITIES. THIS WILL MOST LIKELY BE A PROBLEM IN THE HIGHER ELEVATIONS. SNOW SHOWERS AND STRONGER WINDS WILL GRADUALLY DIMINISH LATER TUESDAY.
