New York Times story about Addison's Disease

If you're interested in reading an Addison's diagnosis story, click here. Many people with Addison's are diagnosed while in the hospital, near death.

Please note: In the story it says people with Addison's don't produce adrenaline, I don't believe this is true. The autoimmune process of Addison's disease attacks the outer portion of the adrenal glands, where cortisol and aldosterone are produced. The inner portion of the adrenal gland is a separate organ and it is where the adrenaline is produced.

  1. Thank you, Dusty. I enjoyed the article. Several of the symptoms you had as a child. But I never saw odd pigmentation. I think upon occasion you had dark pigmentation under your eyes.

  2. Unnecessary abdominal surgeries are one symptom of Addison's disease. Remember that pesky appendix that was fine???

I'd bet you money that I was really dehydrated...

    Migraine relief
I was reading your website, and read about your migraines. . . I hope this info helps you!

I'm a dentist, diagnosed earlier this year with Addison's and used to get up to 3 migraines per week at the worst. To make a long story short, I treat patients with migraines, and use the only FDA approved orthotic (dental device) to prevent migraines and tension type headaches. Here's the quick explanation: everyone clenches their teeth at night, but those who develop migraines commonly clench way longer and with way more intensity than other people. If you wake up in the middle of the night, or first thing in the morning with a splitting headache/ migraine this device will work for you.

Hopefully this gives you hope, and maybe you will find a dentist who is skilled enough to provide you with some much needed relief.

  4. Hey Dave,

    Thank you for the information!

I have had 2 splints over the last 20 years, although I don't know if they were FDA approved.

I think the cause of my bruxism was low serotonin. Now that I've raised my serotonin levels, I haven't had one migraine. I think I will post a follow up on the migraine situation today.

Thank you for the information and the link.

    :) Dusty
