Pocatello 50 DNF at 17.0

The mountains were beautiful and the weather that day couldn't have been better.  Only a little snow on the first leg.   My coat is on backwards, I'm not 8 months pregnant.

Since getting back from Morocco, I haven't been right.  Those of you who know me will argue that I've never been right but this is worse than usual.  I just don't care about running or exercising.  I feel weak and puny.

There's not a lot, if any, of research on Addison's, hypothryoidism, extreme temperature change, international travel and a week of endurance exercise.  I maintained meds really well during MdS but the last two months have not been good.
Lots of mud in Pocatello last weekend!

I went to Pocatello feeling under prepared and not caring.  I nearly turned around and quit at 7 miles so making it to 17 was a victory in some ways.  The race was organized fantastically and the volunteers were spectacular.  I spent the afternoon with Kirsten (a racer's wife) drinking beer and someone trusted me to watch a sleeping baby.  It was nice to run/walk for a little bit and then have a quiet, relaxing afternoon.

This is how babies are the cutest, sleeping.  Zane never slept so perhaps that's why a sleeping baby is to appealing to me.

After whining to Ashley and Wanda, I've upped my thyroid meds and HC temporarily and I've cut out exercise entirely for a week.  I think I'm feeling better.  We'll see.
What I do at work, admire and kill mice.  I had to set a mouse trap up on that medicine cabinet.  Of course blood spattered all over the walls like a horror movie.  I hate horror movies and mice.

My dog, Dolly, is cute.  This is her spot when we are in the car.
If you've gotten this far, we've listed the house and it's up for sale.  Want to buy it?  We're doing a lot of work on it to make it pretty.  We're closing on the Florida house on Tuesday.  When will we move?  June of 2012!  I can't wait!

This will be our house on Tuesday around 6 pm.

Snow is melting quickly here.  I am hoping to get out on the trails this week or next.  Yay!  I guess it's a good sign that I want to go on the trails.  Lots of work this week.  No more Middle School library volunteering.  My favorite librarian has retired a year early!!  I will miss the library but I will still get to see my librarian for the next year!!

Last day of work EVER!  Wahoo!!!!

  3. Sorry to hear about your DNF, but glad to hear you're upping your meds. I still think you're suffering the after effects of Morocco, and that things will slowly right themselves. With my marathon training starting next month, and faced with the prospect of travel to the opposite side of the world to run it two weeks before (from Wellington to Amsterdam, with the race in Budapest two weeks later), I'm wondering how to handle my meds. Since taking Hydro never seems to keep me awake I'll probably err on the side of caution and just keep gulping the medication down. I find travel quite stressful anyway and don't deal well with disrupted sleep, so I just hope to survive! I have two weeks of running round Italy to look forward to in any case - a real incentive to get over the jet lag if there ever was one.

Is your dog a mini-Schnauzer? Our friends have two standards and they're amazing creatures.

  4. Sorry to hear you're not right Dusty. Are you prepared for this to take a while? Travel alone is super taxing for me anymore, even without stress, esp. int'l style. And the heat and miles. . . Trails peaking out and best time of year to be on them. . . but an addict sometimes has to recognize that her body wants a change of pace for a spell. Maybe your focus shouldn't be on those trails for a few weeks. . . or more. Sending lotsa good chi your way!!

  5. Pip,

    Good luck with your races.

    Becky,

I'm getting back to normal. LOL about trails peaking. That won't happen here until the snow is off of them. I've got plenty of time to rest before mid July!
