Excuses in pictures-April 2013

I'm full of excuses.  I know.  If you have written me an email in the last 4 months, I have probably not returned it.  I'm not good at returning emails anyway and now I have more excuses, I mean reasons that I haven't made the time to return them.

Addison's and thyroid wise, I've been feeling pretty good.  That means I'm trying to finish up what I didn't in the last year and, of course, I've taken on a few additional things because my brain thinks I should do all kinds of things if I'm feeling better.  Start running more again, check!  Take on a new animal, check!  Volunteer more, check!  House projects, check!  On the bad side, I've been having migraines very frequently, luckily for me they are not nearly as severe as they used to be but they make me into a crying pile of useless crap.

Water leak that caused damage to drywall, cabinets and flooring.  I'm probably going to end up doing drywall repairs for a living.  I think I'm getting pretty good at it.  Floors in 1/3 of the house getting replaced Monday, TWO MONTHS after the original leak and repipe of the entire house.  Murphy's Law  made it so that the leak occurred immediately after we decided to have the windows and countertops replaced.

Also as luck would have it or Murphy's Law, my mother in law came to visit right after the water leak.  She's a great guest and we had fun but we had to pull things together a little differently than we would have liked because of the water damage.

Because that wasn't enough stress, we adopted a parrot!  He's a 14 year old Senegal named Keiko.  He says his own name.  We thought he was cage bound but we've made some huge strides in a short time.  Yesterday, he even showed me he could step up from one of my fingers to the other.  We've been sitting around in the evenings staring at him and talking to him like he's a newborn baby.  We look pretty pathetic if you spy on us.

Speaking of pathetic...Our neurotic mini-Schnauzer is incredibly jealous.  She watches the bird and trembles.  There's no doubt she will try to eat the bird if given a chance.

I've been running.  I love how warm it is in Florida.  I love dirt on my feet and ankles in February and March.  I will take sun and dirt over snow any day.

I've been finding a lot of money when I run.  Finding money is FUN.  I am donating all the money I find on my runs to www.parrotoutreachsociety.org.  I volunteer there and I think they are doing great things.

This, unfortunately, is how I've spent my time a lot in the last few weeks.  Every time I get an aura, I'm hoping I don't end up in the ER.  It sucks.  I haven't had a migraine in 6 days.  Fingers crossed that I'm out of the woods for a while!

  1. You're so right about Murphy's Law. Hope it doesn't take too long to get fixed up. I find with Addison's, thyroid and other health issues that chaos really stresses me.
I'm on a bit of a high right now but it's only because I had to increase my cortex due to a cold. I'm having a wonderful creative burst but I hate how the cortisone makes me feel so I'm anxious to get it reduced.
I had just started the 8 week 5 k training program when I got sick. Hope to get back to it this week.
You parrot looks like he had personality!

I saw Suzy Cohen on TV. She wrote a book called Drug Muggers. She said that if a person takes corticosteroids (or however it's spelled), they will end up B2 deficient and it will cause migraine headaches. Because I suffered terribly with headaches, I decided to give it a try. It's been great. After my body got caught up on the B vitamins, including 400 mg daily of B2, I'm migraine free and feel like a new person. Auras took a few months to go away tho'.

  3. Thanks Deb. My migraines started 20 years before the AI. I've tried all the B vits. No joy. :( I wish mine were mediated by B vits. What an easy fix! I'm SO GLAD it works for you!

    Holly, YOU GO GIRL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
