Blog changes

Thanks to everyone who followed Training Because I Can! over the last nine years. This blog started with Addison's Disease, hypothyroidism and a crazy idea of doing an Ironman distance triathlon. My life has changed and so has this blog. I am using this blog strictly for Addison's Support topics from here on out. I hope to continue providing people with hints for living life well with adrenal insufficiency.

9 times in 9 months and some turkeys

Yep, by the skin of my teeth I've run from Teton Canyon to the base of Grand Targhee at least once a month for the last nine months (a 2008 goal). I did it yesterday on September 30th. I was tired and walked a lot but I did it anyway. I think I fell asleep before 9 pm. I don't think I took extra hydrocortisone and I think I really needed it! My whole body is a little achy today so I upped my HC by 5 mg, 10 probably would have been more appropriate.

I'm really glad I did the run/walk even though all I had energy for was the road (11.4 miles as opposed to 12 - 14 on the trail or the Grand Teton Races loop). I didn't find one darned treasure or money along the way but it was a gorgeous run. Pictures below.

I don't currently have any goals and I 'm working on them. I'll definitely get into the gym tomorrow and lift because I'm doing it BEFORE I go to work!

Enjoy!

The Grand Teton and some aspens, they looked that bright in real life!

Trees that haven't turned pretty colors yet

The usual shot of the Tetons (Left to Right Teewinot, The Grand, Middle, South) with some fall color

At work today the turkeys invaded the deck. Look at Mr. Nosey in the right hand corner, he kept poking his head back and forth, watching me.

A shot of the turkeys from a different angle. Look at the color of those bushes in the background!

Picture album and migraines

I've spent the last 2 days hanging out between the bed and the couch with migraines. When I got my FOURTH migraine yesterday morning, Kate helped me decide that I ought to go to the doctor to get a shot or two to break the cycle. I did it. I hate shots but they seem to have done the trick. So far no new migraines. The doctor prescribed a new med for me to try to get rid of migraines once they happen but so far no ideas about how to keep them from occuring in the first place.

I guess I need to mention that the reason that migraines are so dangerous for me is because if I start throwing up, I dehydrate easily. In addition, I can't take the main medicine (hydrocortisone) that keeps me alive. Lastly, if I do start throwing up and can't keep liquids down, I end up in the Emergency Room with an IV and it's really expensive to have that happen.

I can't remember if I've posted this Picasa photo album

link with pictures of the Grand Teton Races. The pictures are of the 100 milers, 50 milers, Trail Marathon runners and our Support Crew (Allison and Dave). There are a lot of pictures!

Running has fallen by the wayside because I've been so busy and from lack of planning.
