Blog changes

Thanks to everyone who followed Training Because I Can! over the last nine years. This blog started with Addison's Disease, hypothyroidism and a crazy idea of doing an Ironman distance triathlon. My life has changed and so has this blog. I am using this blog strictly for Addison's Support topics from here on out. I hope to continue providing people with hints for living life well with adrenal insufficiency.

Red Creek again

Red Creek again. It's my current favorite. It's so peaceful and quiet when inconsiderate motorcyclists aren't illegally tearing up the trails. This loop is supposed to be non motorized. See next picture for the inconsiderate motorcyclist who continued tearing up the muddy trail despite me telling him the trail was non-motorized.

Recognize this inconsiderate guy?

Rant off. There were tons of deer, moose and squirrel tracks. No bear tracks at all. Whew!

Squirrel tracks (?) crossing the trail.

Fresh moose tracks going down the gulley

Duck footed Dusty tracks coming up the hill.

If you look closely, you can see the imprint of my knee in the bottom, right corner and my hands on the left side. That was quite a slip! It didn't hurt.

The result of my slip.

Sometimes a girl's got to take a break on the trail for a smoke. They're Lights.

Warm spring in Red Creek.

This looked like a tree giving birth to another tree. Yes, I'm a little weird.

Some pictures

Nancy, Heather, Margaret and Suzie in Moose Creek

Short summary: I'll continue doing the blog. I'm so glad you people don't find it boring or at least too boring for me to continue. I've been feeling well and I think I'm having a breakthrough with the migraines. I've been migraine free for a couple of months now. I will dedicate a post to this in a couple of days. I started a FaceBook page called Trail Runners of Teton Valley (see the box to the right) and I've been able to run with some new, wonderful women. It's been great having company, laughing and sharing stories on the runs. Below are some pictures from the last two weeks.
Rudi today. A perfect hiking companion

Dolly (dog), Rudi, Tammy, Nancy and me

Pretty

Dolly and I at Aspen Trail. I ran some miles in Crocs!! I've got a sore spot on my heel and the Crocs didn't rub the sore spot. It's fun trying something new.

Bridger (dog) and Joanne up near Mike Harris. Big Holes in the background.

Cute

A big pile of barbed wire in the ditch

Allison's favorite tree house

A barn in Teton Springs

Harley is tall and wearing jeans to run! Heather is his wife.

Teton Middle School Librarian, Kim, got the kids lots and lots of great new books. She let me touch all of the brand new books first!

A big moment in my son's development. He's eating sautéed mushrooms and onions.

2010 Goals

To be specific, these are my running goals for 2010. There's a Plan A and a Plan B. The plans are contingent upon winning a lottery position for two races. I won't know if I got in until February.

Plan A 2010
1. Complete the Rocky Mountain Slam if I get into Hardrock
a. Hardrock 100*, plus three of four of Wasatch, the Bighorn 100, the Bear 100 Mile Endurance Run, or Leadville
2. Rocky Raccoon 50 or 100, February 2010
3. Get into Barkley*, March 2010
4. Pocatello 50, May 2010
*Entry by lottery

Plan B 2010
1. Rocky Raccoon 50 or 100, February 2010
2. Get into Barkley*, March 2010 OR Antelope Island 50 mile
3. Pocatello 50, May 2010
4. Devil's Backbone 50. July 2010
5. El Vaquero Loco 50 K, August 2010
6. Wasatch 100, September 2010

Overall, I want to complete these races without throwing up and/or crying. That's it!

How will I accomplish this?
1. Practice and refine my hydrocortisone/florinef needs during long runs.
2. Practice eating during long runs.
3. Consistently and persistently run the miles I need to run to accomplish my goals. I'm using this 100 mile program with alterations. I also started a group on Facebook, Trail Runners of Teton Valley, so we (runners) can connect, have company on our runs, push each other and just have company once in a while.
4. Strengthen my upper body and core through Core Performance training.

Although I've set my race goals high for 2010, it's not accomplishing these goals that's important. The important things are: the journey to the goal, practice being consistent and persistent (exercise, food, meds), staying healthy, enjoying what I'm doing when I'm doing it, taking pictures and making it through our long winter without going bonkers.
