Blog changes

Thanks to everyone who followed Training Because I Can! over the last nine years. This blog started with Addison's Disease, hypothyroidism and a crazy idea of doing an Ironman distance triathlon. My life has changed and so has this blog. I am using this blog strictly for Addison's Support topics from here on out. I hope to continue providing people with hints for living life well with adrenal insufficiency.

A picture journal

Fakahatchee State Park
The last two months since leaving Idaho and moving our lives to Florida has been wonderful and hard.  The weather here in Florida is AMAZING.  The trails are a little far away so I'm on the treadmill at the gym a lot or under the lanai on our treadmill.  The roads here are downright dangerous to run on.  I'd rather be on the treadmill in the gym than be outside on the road if that tells you anything at all. I miss my son terribly.

I think the most frustrating parts of moving are the lack of routine, trying to navigate new roads and trying to find things in the grocery store!!

Paul didn't need any more crap for his birthday so I got him trapeze lessons.  We are not far from Barnum and Bailey's headquarters.  The Venice, Florida high school has a Trapeze team that competes with other local high schools.  How cool!

How convenient, I got to participate in Paul's birthday present too!  A gratuitous picture of me.

Dinner at the beach.  Lovely Christmas decorations.  Beach volleyball being played in the background!
The day after Christmas at Wakiva State Park.  Holding an alligator!  We went canoeing too.

Grizzlies no matter where I am.

Our local trail 3/4 of a mile long but very beautiful.  It's a tiny peninsula of land surrounded by water ways.

Please, when you go to the gym, keep your underwear in your pants.  This guy worked out the entire time with his pants deliberately pulled down under his ass.  I'm getting old because I really prefer underwear to be UNDER clothes.

At Lee County State Park, the manatees were trying to stay warm during a "cold spell".  There were probably 50 of them and they were SPECTACULAR!  So peaceful and gentle.
Lee County State Park.  Nice walk way!
I was just about to swim before I saw this sign.  Actually, that's a joke.  Do people really need to be reminded that they shouldn't feed alligators?!

At Fakahatchee State Park, I was doing trail work with Bob Becker for his upcoming race.  On the way back from the work, we saw this guy sunning him/herself.  Even the ranger was impressed with the approximately 10' size!

Getting all artsy.  To get past the gator, we had to encourage it to get in the water (with a truck).  He/She slipped into the swamp and this is what I saw.

Yesterday, January 8th was my Grandmother's 100th birthday.  She is a sweet, wonderful and kind woman.  I am SO FORTUNATE to still have her in my life.  I don't see her often enough but I write her letters.  I love my Grandma!

Great photos as always! I was just wondering this morning how you were doing, so it was good to get home and find this post. I've been publishing a few photos of my runs to Facebook, if you ever log on there any more.

Being restricted to treadmill running must suck after the wonderful trails you had in Idaho. I haven't been doing the distances you've posted in some of your races, but today I got up at 5.30 am and was on the trails by 6.15 for 18k of delicious Wellington trails. That's the furthest I've ever run on trails! This weekend it's 22k, and then a fortnight after that it's 26k in the Tussock Traverse, a trail run in National Park in the centre of the north island. It's either going to be really cold or really hot, and it's quite rocky so it will also be challenging. I'll be relying on base fitness and grit.

Pip, you'll have to take me to Polhill Reserve! Beautiful!! I'm looking forward to pictures from your upcoming runs as well. Best of luck to you!

I love that you're getting all that warm weather and tropical flora and fauna. :)

Jeez, you moved across the country! From ID to FL, holly cow! That's some news for me. And I thought going from OR to TX was a record:) Loved the previous post about doing, thanks, always timely (if not for one thing than for another, right?). I saw roads in FL, I actually tried to run when visited Bobby, but was able to only be there till 7am. Best to you, never-whining girl!

Ashley,

I'm really enjoying it here! The birds are AMAZING!!!

Olga,

Great to hear from you! I know you will temporarily find another obsession to fill the gap of running. I'm enjoying finding trail and semitrails amid suburbia. Sometimes I have to be on the side of the road but I will find alternatives as I explore.

I love your photos! It seems you're adjusting to Florida alright! The trapeze thing is amazing - not sure my dizziness could handle all that, but I'll be content to live vicariously through you!
