Blog changes

Thanks to everyone who followed Training Because I Can! over the last nine years. This blog started with Addison's Disease, hypothyroidism and a crazy idea of doing an Ironman distance triathlon. My life has changed and so has this blog. I am using this blog strictly for Addison's Support topics from here on out. I hope to continue providing people with hints for living life well with adrenal insufficiency.

One year of running a mile a day and three years of walking a mile a day!

On February 13th of 2010, I decided to walk a mile a day as a measure of gratitude for my ability to walk

In December of 2009, I discovered I had a stress fracture of my femoral neck.  I was unable to walk, let alone run for six weeks.  This was quite a blow mentally and physically as I had recently finished my first and only 100 mile run.  I was devastated.  In addition to devastation, I was having trouble with my thyroid.  Injury makes me very hypothyroid, I get tired, cry, snore, get sleep apnea and swell up like a balloon.  December, January and part of February were very hard months for me and for my family.

Inspired by Colleen Woods, I started "streaking".  In 2010, it was just walking.  In 2012, inspired by Steve Tursi, I decided to begin running a mile a day.  Although it's been hard to do at times, it's been worth it.

I feel that running or walking each and every day is VERY helpful to overall health and well being.  I know I sound like a broken record.  Try it and let me know!

Hi Dusty,

I too have Addison's disease and have recently begun to blog about it. Someone suggested I should contact you as I am also a runner trying to successfully run a 1/2 in March. I love learning from other's experiences :)

Amber,

Come join us at www.addisonssupport.com Addison’s Support forum. There are a few of us with AI that run. If you’re running a half in March, you’ve done the hard work already! Congrats!

Thanks Molly! I had chocolate with espresso instead of cake. I wanted cake but knew I'd eat the whole damned thing so I stuck to a bar of chocolate!

I read about your goal of walking a mile a day a few years ago. Not long after that I took up the challenge. I also have Addison's and as a result I thought this would be an unachievable goal. About 2 months after I began walking a mile every day, my Mom also joined the challenge. She had to give up her streak 6 weeks ago due to knee surgery after almost 2 years. Yesterday she walked her first mile in her new streak. As of today I have walked at least a mile everyday for 2 years and 25 days. I have actually been walking this mile longer than that, but I have had to start over a few times due to hospital stays. On goods days I go farther, and really good days allow me to run some or all of it. As you were the inspiration for this I just wanted to thank you for documenting your struggles and successes for all of us that need a little encouragement.
